Dakshesha is sometimes written as Daksa, Dakseza or Daksesa. He is the lord of expertise, lord of efficiency, the lord of skills and is also called the Hindu Creator God., the Hindu Lord of Population and Creation. His area of expertise is Creation. Dakshesha is another name for Lord Siva. He is one who is superior to Daksa or is the subjugator of Daksa.
Dakshesha was born out of the right thumb of Brahma and takes great pride in being a member of the Prajapatis who are responsible for making a splendid place like the Universe. Dakshesha is also a member of the Saptarishis. Dakshesha has at least 100 daughters and 1000 sons which make his pretty responsible for increasing the population on planet Earth. A few of his daughters were star-struck by the Chandra (the Moon God) and married him. These daughters are seen in the form of Nakshatras constellations and can be seen easily in the sky at night.
In the initial stages, Brahma gave Dakshesha the thumbs up to marry his daughters but, Shiva their father-in-law gave him a lot of anxiety and distress. Dakshesha ended up with his head cut off in one of the violent squabble. In the compensation that took place later, Dakshesha had to manage with the head of a goat as finding the original head was difficult for Shiva. Dakshesha is known to find himself in scapegoat sacrificial kind of situations. After that he became one of the greatest attendants of Shiva.
