Recently I wrote to a friend that a Guru is one that is seen as an answer when you seek solutions. A Guru is the mind and not a person. He is simply an answer to any mind that is inquisitive. A Guru is there in a friend, scriptures, books, in the whole neutral universe, in the entire neutral world.

He Speaks From Within Your Inner Depths

The Guru does not speak from an elevated stage far removed from you. You may listen to him in a discourse. But he speaks from within your inner depths. You may admire him but it is not necessary to worship the person. But there is one thing you know; it is that he and you are at the same plain and he will definitely answer you. You can hear him speaking to you from your innermost depths. You know well that you understand him fully and he is always there with you to answer you.

He Is Present In Your Own Mind

The presence of a guru is in your own mind. If there is a question, then before putting it in front of anyone else, you put it to yourself first. Your own mind answers it in the form of inner activity of the thoughts. The answer could come to you only after a period of contemplation and not always at the same time itself.

It has been seen that scientists and theoreticians have sometimes found solutions to their problems in their dreams while asleep.

When doubts are put forth clearly to the guru, he contemplates and provides answers to you in the inner recesses of the mind.

He Is A Hard Physical Trainer

The Guru may prescribe some hard penance for you and you may try running away thinking that you are weak. But the Guru is a hard physical trainer who discourages your weakness by encouraging you to be strong. He helps in strengthening your ego and helps train the mind to reach its inner depths. He will hang around supporting you while you alone at the inner depts. You are able to hypnotize yourself with support from the Guru.

He Is Your Friend

Like a friend your Guru will teach you things you don’t know simply because he too has an inner urge to share.

He Transforms The World Without Any Agenda

The Guru is an enlightened one and needs no agenda for transforming the world. He has not seen the whole truth as he is aware that the world goes by its own. Lao-tse in Tao Te Ching states that:

  • The world is sacred
  • It is perfect
  • Trying to change it will only ruin it
  • You will lose it if you try to hold it
