Indrani is the wife of Lord Indra. She is also called the Queen of Heavens, the Goddess of Wrath, Aindiri, Sachi and the Shakti of Indra. She was considered to be Goddess Durga’s epithet, as an early Vedic goddess. As mentioned in the Rig Veda, Goddess Indrani is said to be the most lucky lady for Lord Indra as he was bestowed with immortality and would not die due to aging in any future time. She is the perpetual queen of Indra and ranks at one of the nine major goddesses of the south and is generally a part of the Sapta Matrikas.

Chitragupta, her son is said to have become book keeper to Lord Yama in which he performs the duty of reading out the sum total of sins of the dead and their total virtues. Goddess Uma had cursed many goddesses that they would not bear any off-springs. However, to avoid becoming childless, Indrani practices austerities which turned out to be fruitful. It is believed that on praying to Goddess Indrani, she grants her devotees freedom from ignorance and foresight into future events. She provides solace to women who are exploited by their husbands.

Areca, betel, mixture of curd and cooked rice, fruit, vermillion, fruits and mil-gruel are her favorite offerings. Indrani is portrayed with three eyes, she is the epitome of beauty and motherly love and cradles Karthikeya, her child. She has four hands with one holding a flag and the other a Vajra, or a damru and trident. The other two hands are in Abhaya and Varada Mudra. In her gold or rend complexion, she rests on a lion skin, adorns a prominent crown, wears the waist band and ornaments.
