Profile
Kripalu was born as Ram KripaluTripathi on 5th October 1922 in Mangath near Allahabad. His mother was Bhagavati Devi and father was Lalita Prasad Tripathi. Even as a child, Ram Kripalu showed signs of divinity and as a student he was a brilliant one, quick to grasp. In 1933 he was married to Padma Devi but he went away from home for long periods. At thirteen he left his village to learn Sanskrit, later studied Ayurveda. He became an expert in literature too. In 1938, when he was sixteen he went into the forests of Vrindavan and was not seen for a year. He was believed to have been immersed in the bliss of Sri Radha Krishna. He was seen completely absorbed in the divine bliss of love ad would lose himself to the world. He would dance and sing and then become unconscious. He was always in a trance and after about two years, people realised his greatness and they took to the village and took care of him. Whenever he was in his trance nobody could approach him but when he was normal he advised people on their problems and gave spiritual guidance. In 1955 Kripalu organized a convention for spiritual leaders. Many leaders who had come there were impressed with Kripalu. In 1957 Kripalu was invited for the KashiVidvatParishat. There he spoke for seven days. Having known of his blissful trance and understanding his erudition in the scriptures he was formally proclaimed as the fifth Jagadguru, world teacher, by the KashiVidvatParishat. The date was January 14th 1957 and Kripalu was 34 years old. After contributing to the society in many ways JagadgurKripaluMaharaj attained the feet of the Lord on November 15th 2013, at the age of 91.
Philosophy Propounded
KripaluMaharaj danced in ecstatic devotion. He would twirl on one foot with the bliss of devotion. Needless to say ‘devotion’ to Radha Krishna was his philosophy. He has said, “The desired goal of the soul is to attain the selfless Divine love of Radha Krishna whoare eternally related to you”. However he had revealed himself as someone who knew the shastrasvery well.
Work Done to Spread the Philosophy
JagadguruKripaluParishat was founded by KripaluMaharaj. There are many projects functioning under this Parishat. There are five main ashrams of which four are in India and one is in the US. There are three free hospitals, many schools and colleges. During disasters and natural calamities this organization has come forward and helped the affected people. Many books have been published and he had given lot of discourses of various TV channels. All those who knew KripaluMaharaj said he was “Purifier of Sinners! Causelessly Merciful Lord! Friend of the Destitute!”
