Nakula is known as a master swordsman in the Mahabharata. He could treat horses of their illnesses as he mastered Ayurveda and medicine. He rode horses and drove chariots amazingly, was a great archer and had excellent diplomatic skills. He was highly skillful in art of horses as well. He was the fourth brother out of the five Pandava brothers in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Nakula and his twin brother Sahadeva were born to Madri. Madri had prayed to the Ashwini Kumaras after which the twins were born. Since Sahadeva and Nakula were born from Ashvinas, they both are accordingly called as Ashvineya.

In the lineage, Nakula means the most handsome. Kamadeva and Nakula have been compared for his devastatingly handsome looks. Nakula is well known for his expeditions to the western kingdoms.

When all the Pandavas went for 13 years to exile, Nakula, Yudhishthira, Sahadeva and Draupadi were kidnapped by Jatasura who came in the guise of a Brahmin. They were rescued by Bhima after which in a fight Nakula killed Suratha, Mahamaha and Kshemankara. Brilliant swordsmanship of Nakula was seen when he displayed skills of his sword on the 18th day of the Kurukshetra War while killing Karna’s sons.

Nakula had the power of curing illnesses just like magic as he was the divine son of the Ashwins. His parents were the Ashwins (Godly father), Pandu (father) and Madri (mother). His brothers were Sahadeva, Yudhistira, Arjuna and Bhima. Draupadi (Panchali) and Karenumati were his wives while Niramitra and Satanika were his sons.
