Pulastja is called ‘the Wonderful and Wise Lord of Creation’ or the ‘Hindu Creator God’. Pulastja is one of the Prajapatis, according to Hindu mythology. Lord Brahma created this Hindu deity to help with the creation of the Universe. Pulastja is called the mind-born son of Lord Brahma. In the first Manvantara, Pulastja is one of the Seven great Sages Rishi) Saptarishis.
While his father is Brahma, his spouse is Manini who is also known as Havirbhu. The four children of Pulastja are Agastya Rakshasas, Vishrava and Kinnaras. As a Saptarishi sage, his task was to be connected with mortals and communicate spiritual truths to them.
Puranic literature indicates that Pulastja was an important medium to communicate the Puranas to mankind. Brahma passed on the Vishnu Purana to Pulastja so that it becomes known to mankind.
Havirbhu or Havirbhoo was one of the nine daughters of Rishi Kardam. Pulastja’s son Vishrava had two wives named Ilavida who had a son name Kubera and his other wife was Kaikesi who had offspring named Ravana, Vibhishana, Kumbhakarna and Shurpanakha.
A famous statue of Pulastja Rishi in granite is located in Sri Lanka in Polonnaruwa, some sources claim.
According to the Puranic framework, there have been special kinds of creatures with supernatural origins. Besides this there are superhuman beings like the rakshasas having subhuman qualities. It is believed that Pulastja is one who gave rise to these superhuman beings and creatures.
