Shri Siddheshwar was one of the five acharya of Lingayat ( Veerashaivism) and he was also known as Siddharama or Siddarameswara. He was a great contributor towards the Lingayat religion and was a great mystic and Kannada poet. He was part of the Beerashaiva revolution of Basavanna during the 12th century and he followed the pa h of Karmayoga. Service to mankind was his philosophy in life and he was instrumental in saving the vachana literature from destruction. Siddharama have written about 68000 vachanas out of which only 1379 is available now. He was dead against the blind conventions of caste and sex discrimination and emphasised the needs for realisation through personal experience. He borrows metaphors from the different spheres of everyday life and has written many devotional work in tripadi (tripadi is writing in three line verse) used from the 7th century.
Siddharama was the son on Muddanna and Suggaladevi and was also the first social spiritual Guru. Being part of the Sharana revolution in the 12th century he encouraged inter-caste weddings. Siddharam saw divinity in all living creatures in the world and undertook many irrigation projects for the goodwill of the common people. Siddharama was a historical figure of the 12th century and his activities in his home land Solapur made him a Godly figure in and around Solapur. Siddharama gained Siddhi and dug a lake with the help of 400 Sharanas to solve the problem of drinking water in Solapur because was drought prone area. Apart from taking initiative to dig lakes Siddharama built temples and encouraged people to conduct mass weddings and do the useful work for the society and ones which benefit the mankind. There was huge mass of people behind of Siddharama and many people joined him in changing Sonnalige. Siddharama had many things to teach mankind and people really benefitted from his teachings then and even now.
