Shri Swami Samarth, one of the greatest spiritual minds lived in India in the 19th century. Till he appeared in the world nobody knew his history or whereabouts. Swamiji is the incarnation of Shri Dattatreya and had many disciples all over the world. Swamiji had given approval to Astrologer Nana Rekhi to prepare His horoscope and according to the horoscope Swamiji was given the nick name ‘Nrushimhabhan’. Accroding to the horoscope the Zodia sign of Swamiji is Mesha (Aries) and Meen (Pisces) as the lagna rashi. It is also mentioned in the horoscope that he is a Yajurvedi Vrahmin and the Gotra as Kashyap.
Horoscope
Swamiji after seeing the horoscope said “play music” and placed His hand on the right hand of Nana Rekhi and displayed Vishnupad in blue colour on the palm. This mark is said to be on his plam till the end. Swamij after this said “I have given you my Atmalinga”. Swami was/is a powerful saint and hecould foresee many things happening in the world. Swamiji would give indicationsof his last journey also in advance. Swamiji at the Jungam Muth in Akkalkot asked his attendant to place dry cowdung cakes on the ‘Shivalinga’ and told him to create a fire much to the objection of the community people.
Swamiji should his divine form to the protesters which made them sit quiet and when the ‘Shivalnga’ was cleaned the next day it had a bright and glowing look than before. It was actually an indication which Swamiji gave his disciples about his last journey and people did not understand it then. People came to know about it later and understood that Swamiji is giving bad indications and something bad is going to happen. On chaithra Shudha Pournima of 1800 AD Swamiji preferred not to sleep on the bed and in the night he had fever and dysentery in the morning. Swamiji gave up food from then onwards and many doctors were attending to Him.
Mahasamadhi
On Chaithra Krishna Thrayodashi day of the Hindu calendar year 1800 (English calendar 1878) at 1 pm Swamiji asked his devotees to bring his pets like cows, horses, bullocks etc and He offered them the Prasad. Many of the devotees did not understand what was happening but the pet animals knew what was coming their way and were in tears. Swamiji sat in the lotus position and absorbed in the Supreme Self. The doctors around checked him and found out that there is no breath left in him. Devotees and his disciples started to lament in the great loss of the Great Teacher. Swamiji then opened his eyes to chant a sloka from the Bhagavad Gita and blessed everyone and closed his eyes.
