Shri Swami Samarth was a great saint who had his physical presence in the 19th century in India. Swamiji after travelling all over the country finally settled down in Akkalkot in Maharashtra. Swamiji’s teachings are still followed by his followers and disciples’ and one has to follow it to lead a perfect life. In 1878 Swamiji attained Mahasamadhi and his disciples and followers were totally lost. He gave his blessing to everybody before closing his eyes for one last time and his followers could not believe it. They all thought that it was a dream.But when they realised the reality they could not control their emotions.

His devotees felt that they have been made orphans and could not believe that the incarnation is going to come to a halt. The news of Swamiji’S Mahasamadhi spread all over the country and people started pouring in from different viallages around Akkalakot where he lived. Even after the breath had stopped Swamiji had a divine brilliance on his face and it looked radiant. Seeing his face nobody could make out that he is not breathing, such was His divinity. Swamiji’s body lay still in the ashram but his presence was felt all around and people could not digest the fact that Swamiji’s physical presence was no more.
Swamiji’s devotees created a flower bed for the final journey and the Great Spiritual Guru was dressed in clothes and ornament before the last journey. Swamiji was practicllay covered with flowers all over the body and the complete resources from the Akkalkot State were ready for the procession. The elephants and horses were kept ready for the procession and the crest of royalty was also ready for the final journey. Swamiji’s devotees started singing devotional songs praising the Lord and queued up to have a final darshan of the Great Soul’s physical body. The place for the Samadhi was ready in Cholappa’s house and the disciple palced the body into the Samadhi. Devotees chanted and sang bhajans as the Samadhi door was closed.
Mourning
On the day of Mahasamadhi the entire world was orphaned and people. Animals, birds and all living creatures were sad and mourning. People mourned in different ways, some left everything and visited holy places and some waited for Swamiji to come back to the world. Such was the never-ending highest heavenly happiness Swamiji had given the devotees and all in the world. Swamiji offered his spiritual knowledge to the devotees according to the devotion of each devotee. Swamiji who was incarnation of Lord Dattatrey had marked his presence in the human form and gave the world miraculous work for the wellness of the common man. Swamiji still guides his true devotees on the spiritual path and help them lead a great life.
