Swami Krishnananda was originally known as Subbaraya. He was born in an orthodox Shivaralli Brahmin family in South Kanara District in April 25th 1922. At a very early age he showed his religious bent of mind, developed keen interest in Vedic scriptures and the Sanskrit language.
He completed his education, took up a job in a Government firm and then began living a religious life completely. To study more about the Vedas and Sanskrit he left for Varanasi. Later he went to Rishikesh in the year 1944 and became associated with Swami Sivananada for the very first time. Swami was so impressed with Krishnananda that he allowed him to start staying at the ashram. At the end of two more years, Subbarya was initiated into Sanyashood by Swami Sivananada and presented him the title Swami Krishnanda Saraswathi. Swami Krishnanada began experience ultimate consciousness of God by the year 1948 and became an absolute Gnani.
Swami Krishnananda was selected by Swami Sivanananda for the post of General Secretary of The Divine Life Society in 1958 which he served upto 2001. After this nothing could stop Krishnananda. People in countless numbers gained inspiration and guidance from the writings and teachings of Swami Krishananda. He always aimed at following the footsteps of his Guru Swami Sivananda.
Swami Krishnananda is known all over the world as a highly respected philosophical writer on sociology, psychology and metaphysics. He is known to deliver answers to questions related to day to life of people through is excellent presentations. He died in November 23rd, 2001 at Rishikesh. Swami Krishnananda has left behind an autobiography about the journey of his life also.
