Swami Omkarananda Saraswati, a mystic, sage and genius was born on December 25th, 1929 in Hyderabad. Right from a young age he had many mystic experiences. At the age of seventeen he has introduced by his Guru, Sri Swami Sivananda into the spiritual world. Hundreds of works have been published by Swami Omkarananda Saraswati with a number of them also translated into various foreign languages. His main Ashram is located in the Himalayas. Besides this, he has many other ashrams all across the world, especially in the European countries, including Austria, Germany, England and Switzerland.

Many philanthropic activities are undertaken at his Ashram in the Himalayas including taking care of some temples located in the Himalayan region. Swami Omkarananda Saraswati died in January 4th, 2000 at Langen bei Bregenz, in Austria.

Many spiritual experiences of the omniscient and omnipresent God flooded his life at the age of thirteen and fourteen. After this he left his house in South India and went to the Himalayas. There he became associated with the well known Sage Sri Swami Sivananda who recognized him as having profound divine wisdom, an embodiment of the high spirit of renunciation and his heart filled with touching spirit.

Sage Swami Sivananda made him Bala Yogi, Bala Jnani, credited him with the title ‘Adhyatma Kavita-Bhaskara’ and at the age of seventeen he was crowned Sannyasa-Diksha. Each of his activities embraces social, spiritual, scientific, educational and cultural fields. Uplifting the backward regions in the Himalayan Garhwal Hills area is one of his unique achievements. He has established a number of beautiful temples in Garhwal area of which one with outstanding purity and beauty is the ‘Omkarananda-Kamakshi-Devi Mandir.
