Once Sri Swami Samarth was in the palace of Akkalkot and was walking in the courtyard. One of the servants of the palace was holding in his hand a spice box made of gold. Sri Swamiji took the box from the servant and went to King Maloji Raje. Swamiji asked the king if he could throw the spice box into the well. King Maloji Raje told Swami that the box was now his and that he could do whatever he liked with it.

Sri Swamiji threw the golden spice box into the well. Swamiji was staying at the palace on that day. In the morning on the following day, Sri Swamiji was playing around in the courtyard. At that time, King Maloji Raje too also came to the courtyard. Swamiji spoke to the king and asked him to bring a rope and a bucket. After it was brought, Sri Swamiji put the bucket into the well and started pulling it up.

And lo! In the bucket was the same spice box which Swami had thrown the previous day into the well. The spice box was filled with cardamom and cloves, but the spices were not touched by water and did not get wet at all. All people present at the scene were simply astonished. This was one of the many miracles associated with Sri Swami Samarth. Miracles are known to flow in abundance in the presence of Sri Swami Samarth. The life of Swamiji was a miracle in itself. In his incarnation, everything that Sri Swami Samarth did, had been miraculous in nature. Permanent influence is transmitted by the miraculous works of Sri Swamiji, wherever his works reach, beyond the reach of any jugglery or magic.
