Yasoda is a ‘Hindu Mother Goddess’ known as the ‘Foster Mother of Lord Krishna’. Yasoda is his adoptive mother who looked after him right from infancy, childhood and as an adolescent. Yasoda played the role of a perfect mother to him.
According to Hindu mythology, Kamsa the Mathura King was forewarned that his reign would be ended by a male born in his kingdom. He is informed by a prophecy that the eighth child of sister (Devaki) and her husband (Vasudeva) would kill him and take over his reign. The angry and cruel Kamsa puts Devaki and her husband into prison and kills every child she gives birth to, except in the case of the seventh child, a miracle happens.
Devaki’s fetus was transferred to Rohini, another wife of Vasudeva who gives birth to the seventh child. Krishna makes a decision to descend after the seventh child. After Lord Krishna was born his mother Devaki sends away the new born via a river for his own safety to Gokul town where Yasoda and Nanda lives. In return they give Devaki their baby girl who is then slayed by Kamsa, who thinks that he killed Krishna.
Yasoda is the very devoted and loving mother to Krishna. She always protected him, scolded if wrong especially when he secretly age dirt, mud and even curd. The innocent Krishna opens his mouth, only for his mother Yasodha to see that the whole Universe, living and non living beings, constellations, wind, light, water, the mind and the 3 Gunas (qualities). Krishna was always compassionate about his hard working mother Yashoda and appreciated her always.
